Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Designer to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing electrical systems for various residential, commercial, and industrial projects. You will work closely with engineers, architects, and other design professionals to develop and produce high-quality electrical designs and plans that adhere to industry codes and client specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Electrical System Design:
  • Design electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, and low-voltage systems (e.g., data, telecommunications, etc.).
  • Perform electrical load calculations and determine power requirements based on project specifications.
  • Drafting and CAD Design:
  • Create and revise detailed electrical schematics, layouts, and blueprints using AutoCAD, Revit, or other CAD software.
  • Develop single-line diagrams, riser diagrams, and circuit layouts for various electrical systems.
  • Code Compliance:
  • Ensure all designs comply with local, state, and national electrical codes and regulations (e.g., NEC, IEC).
  • Stay up to date with changes in relevant codes and safety standards.
  • Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with engineers, architects, and construction teams to integrate electrical systems seamlessly with other building systems.
  • Participate in project meetings to discuss design requirements, changes, and updates.
  • Equipment Selection:
  • Specify electrical equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switches, panels, and wiring based on project needs and load calculations.
  • Prepare material take-offs and bills of materials (BOMs) for procurement.
  • Site Surveys and Inspections:
  • Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions, gather requirements, and ensure proper installation of electrical systems.
  • Provide technical support during the construction phase, including reviewing drawings, change orders, and addressing issues that arise on-site.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of all design changes, revisions, and approvals throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare and submit design reports, progress updates, and technical documentation to project managers and stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving and Technical Support:
  • Address technical challenges during the design and construction phases and propose effective solutions.
  • Provide ongoing technical support for construction teams during electrical system installation and testing.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Certification or training in electrical design (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, or similar software) is a plus.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of [2-5 years] of experience in electrical design, preferably in the construction or building services industry.
  • Experience with designing electrical systems for residential, commercial, and industrial projects is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit) for drafting and designing electrical systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles, power distribution, and lighting design.
  • Familiarity with electrical modeling and analysis software (e.g., ETAP, DIALux, etc.) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Codes and Standards:
  • Solid knowledge of national and local electrical codes and regulations (e.g., NEC, IEC).
  • Understanding of building codes and energy efficiency standards (e.g., LEED, ASHRAE).
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
  • Ability to perform electrical load calculations and system analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and resolve design issues quickly.
  • Communication Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with engineers, architects, and clients.
  • Ability to prepare and present technical reports and design documents.
  • Project Management:
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with electrical design for sustainable or energy-efficient building projects.
  • Knowledge of advanced electrical design tools and technologies.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., LEED, PMP) or a desire to pursue certifications in electrical design.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to conduct site visits, which may involve walking, climbing ladders, or accessing confined spaces.
  • Ability to work at a computer and use CAD software for extended periods.
